 Oman and Sweet Tax!

The Oman tax authority has announced that the Sultanate will impose 50% tax on sweetened beverages in October of this year. Sultan Al-Habsi, Chairman of the Tax Authority, said that ready for drinking drinks that contain added sugar or a kind of sugar would face a 50 percent tax on sugar excises starting in October this year. The new tax will be reduced to canned juices, fruit drinks, sports drinks, caffeine drinks, and tea. The current sugar tax is not included in 100% of natural fruit juices, milk, and its derivatives that contain not less than 75% milk. Often exempt from tax are food supplements, soft beverages, and medical use.
