The Oman Tax Authority published a list of Food Items covered under Zero-rated Category in the nascent VAT regime. The list is applicable vide the Authority's previous decision 2/2021 from January 11, 2021, when it was published on the official website.
As reported in our last news piece, there are 94 tariff items which follow this exception which includes but are not limited to food items such as meat, fish and poultry, dairy and dairy products, Fresh eggs, vegetables and fruits, Coffee, tea and cardamom, Grain, Olive, Sugar, Children's food preparations, Bread, Bottled drinking water and Table salt.
In the future, the Oman Authority plans to add Medicines and medical equipments, Education and Healthcare services, taxi services, financial services, residential land and undeveloped plots and finally the resale of residential real estate to the list of exclusions from VAT.
