English version of Electronic Invoicing (e-invoicing) Regulations published by KSA's General Authority of Zakat and Tax (GAZT)

The General Authority of Zakat and Tax (‘GAZT’) has published Electronic Invoicing regulations on 4th December 2020. The English version of the regulation is recently published. The new regulation defines the provisions, terms and requirements related to electronic invoices.   The main points of the regulation are given below:

  • A 12-month window has been given to the taxpayers to comply with the new regulation.
  • A tax invoice generated in a structured electronic format through electronic means will be termed as an E-Invoice.
  • The technical solution used to issue Electronic Invoices and Electronic Notes must be able to connect to a secure internet connection and shall be able to connect with external systems using the Application Programming Interface (API).
  • Taxpayers are required to comply by 4th December, 2021 with the E-invoicing regulation.

The E-Invoicing regulation is to promote transparent and fair business practices in Saudi Arabia.
