Customs Go Digital New Launch

According to the Al-Jarida daily, the General Administration of Customs has announced the launch of the first phase of a tracking service for express mail consignments as part of its efforts toward digital transformation, which is considered the work charter and road map for the customs authorities' future plans. Counselor Jamal Al-Jalawi, Director-General of Customs, stated in a statement that the service is necessary in view of the digital age's rapid growth. He said the administration is constantly updating its plans to include extensive technological solutions that will drastically change the way customs operates.

Many technical services and automated linking channels, as well as associated customs upgrades, he noted, were established as a foundation for achieving an integrated digital framework so that all processing operations would be done electronically through the customs system platform. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has consented to add a variety of commercial activities such as floating restaurants similar to those seen in Venice, Italy, as part of the government's goal to convert regions around Jaber Bridge into investment facilities. The ruling mandates the granting of new business licences, under the condition that the process of awarding licences be approved by the Ministry of Interior (Coast Guard) and the Ministry of Finance.
